The Cast-Iron Bell at Scarborough House
The cast-iron bell on the grounds of Scarborough House dates to the period when the property operated as a church and school in the nineteenth century. It still hangs in its original wooden frame near the main house and remains one of the most-photographed details on the estate. Couples use it as a portrait backdrop, and it appears in nearly every estate tour because of the story it tells about the land's history.
The bell sits on the same ten private acres as the five ceremony sites, the Magnolia Pavilion, and all thirteen bedrooms. It is one of several original features on the grounds alongside the hand-dug well, the estate sign, and the 1821 main house itself. Scarborough House is located in Stantonsburg, NC, about 55 minutes east of Raleigh on US-264.
