The Hand-Painted Mural at Scarborough House
A hand-painted mural covers the exterior wall of the Magnolia Pavilion at Scarborough House. It was painted by a local artist and depicts the estate and its surrounding landscape in a style that fits the 1821 historic property. The mural faces the courtyard between the pavilion and the main house and serves as a backdrop for cocktail-hour portraits, ceremony exits, and vendor setups. No two weddings have the same backdrop here, but the mural appears in portraits from every season.
The pavilion wall mural is one of several original commissioned pieces on the property, alongside the hand-carved bar inside the pavilion and the decorative ironwork throughout the estate. Scarborough House is in Stantonsburg, NC, 55 minutes east of Raleigh on US-264.
