A Wedding Rehearsal Guide for Couples and Their Wedding Party

A rehearsal is a practical run-through, not a second ceremony. The goal is for the people involved to know where to stand, when to move, and whom to follow if the plan changes. Keep the instructions simple and share the final timeline in writing.

What to practice

Ask your officiant or ceremony lead to guide the run-through. Walk through the entrance order, where each person stands, the timing for readings or music, the handoff of rings if relevant, and the recessional. Practice transitions in the actual order so the wedding party can see where to go next.

Share any accessibility needs or physical limitations with the ceremony lead ahead of time. Choose a pace and route that work for everyone, and make sure the wedding party knows who will give each cue on the day.

Give the wedding party clear, reasonable roles

  • Share the arrival time, dress expectations, and where personal items should go.
  • Name one point person for questions so the couple is not relaying every update.
  • Ask for help with specific tasks only when needed, such as carrying a small item or reminding a group about the next cue.
  • Leave time for people to eat, hydrate, and take a break.

Plan the dinner around your people and the setting

Thinking about touring? Most couples know within the first ten minutes on the grounds. See tour times or check pricing first.

Choose the guest list, meal format, and location that fit your budget and the kind of evening you want. Confirm what the venue allows, what your caterer supplies, and who handles setup and cleanup. Put dietary needs, speeches, and transportation details in one shared plan instead of relying on day-of memory.

At Scarborough House, the standard weekend package is Friday through Sunday. If you are comparing a multi-day celebration with a one-day event, see our guide to wedding weekends and traditional weddings and check the current weekend package details.
