10 Questions to Ask Every Wedding Venue Before You Sign Anything
How are you supposed to compare venues when every quote looks different?
You ask the same questions at every single tour. Word for word. Then you watch how the answers change.
We are a venue. We give tours every week. And we are handing you the exact list that makes venue owners sit up straight. Bring it to our tour too. We are not scared of it.
The list
1. What is the total price with tax and every fee?
Not the starting price. The total. Some venues include tax. Some add it later. Some add a service fee on top. You want one final number in writing.
2. How many hours do I actually get?
Ten hours on a Saturday and a full Friday-to-Sunday weekend can cost about the same. They are not the same product. Ask when you can arrive and when you must be gone.
3. Where do my people sleep, and what does that cost?
This is the hidden line in most wedding budgets. A hotel block for 40 people runs thousands, plus shuttles. Our answer is 13 bedrooms that sleep 28 overnight guests in standard bedroom beds, plus one bonus twin for 29 fixed overnight bed spaces, included. Ask every venue for theirs.
4. What is the rain plan, and can I see it?
Do not accept "we have options." Make them show you the actual space. Ours is a heated and cooled pavilion. A tent quote that shows up two weeks out is not a plan.
5. Do I have to use your vendors?
Some venues require their caterer or their list. That is not bad, but it changes your menu and your budget. Ask before you fall in love with the place.
6. What happens if I need one more hour?
Extra-hour fees can run hundreds per hour. Know the number before the DJ asks the crowd if they want one more song.
7. Who will be there on my wedding day?
At some venues it is a rotating coordinator you meet that morning. Here it is Josh and Meika, the owners. Neither answer is wrong. You just want to know whose phone rings when something goes sideways.
8. How many weddings do you host that weekend?
Some venues run Friday, Saturday, and Sunday weddings back to back. If you want the place to yourself, ask this one straight out.
9. What is your cancel and reschedule policy, in writing?
Life happens. You want to know what your deposit does and does not cover before you hand it over.
10. Can I talk to a couple who got married here?
Reviews are good. A real phone call is better. A confident venue will connect you. You can also read reviews yourself. Look at the rating AND the count together.
